Letter to primary school about Jigsaw PHSE materials

We recently shared on social media the account of a mum who told us about her 6-year-old daughter coming home from school asking if she was a boy or a girl. At the time, the little girl was in Y3 and the primary school she attends had recently begun using the provider Jigsaw for its PHSE content.

The mum was understandably very concerned as her daughter was normally a happy little girl who mostly liked to wear jeans and played football in her local team but was very happy to dress up for special occasions. After the lesson on gender identity, during which it had been suggested by the teacher that gender is not binary but on a “spectrum”, she started refusing to wear dresses or skirts as she said she is “really a boy” or “non-binary”, and wanted to be known as “they/them”.

Unsurprisingly, her parents were very upset about this sudden change in behaviour, so the dad went into school to see the class teacher, who turned it round on the father, suggesting that he was being bigoted and that the only problem lay with his old-fashioned views rather than false concepts contained in the Jigsaw materials.

We have now written to the school, asking them to reconsider using Jigsaw. If any other parents would like us to write to their own school on their behalf, please get in contact or use the letter below as a template to compose your own complaint.
