New appointments at FET

PRESS RELEASE 12th May 2023

New appointments to the team at Family Education Trust

Family Education Trust (FET) has announced three new appointments to its team.

Peter Williams has been appointed Director and will formally join FET in mid-June.
Most recently Media and Communications Manager at the Anscombe Bioethics Centre, Peter brings over a decade of experience and leadership in the charity sector, as well as critical skills in organisation, research, campaigning and communications. He has worked closely with leading figures in the fields of human rights and ethics, filling the role between 2011 and 2020 as Executive Officer of campaigning organisation Right To Life. Alongside his non-profit work, Peter has deep practical experience of engagement, volunteer mobilisation and supporter outreach through his commercial consulting practice.

Dr. Julie Maxwell, Acting Chair of FET, commented on the appointment: “We are pleased to have secured Peter Williams as Director of FET. In this role, he succeeds long-time Director Norman Wells, who died suddenly in Spring 2020. We would like to thank our departing Senior Researcher Piers Shepherd for his long service, and Communication and PR Officer Lucy Marsh for continuing to raise the profile of FET’s research and advocacy during the pandemic and beyond, which has helped give the FET’s Board of Trustees the confidence to bring Peter on board. With his leadership, we will build further on our sound, evidence-based research into the many influences on the family and sexual behaviour.”

Peter Williams commented: “I am delighted to have been appointed as Director of the Family Education Trust, and honoured to be given the important task of taking forward its mission of research into what helps and what hinders the formation and flourishing of the family. This crucial work of the FET has never been more vitally relevant as it is today, and I look forward to building upon the legacy of the late Norman Wells and others who have given us such a firm foundation to contribute to contemporary social debate and promote true human welfare.”

Stephen Balogh has been appointed a Trustee of FET. Following a 30-year career in business and consultancy, he now devotes his time mainly to initiatives aimed at community building from local neighbourhood to international levels, whether by means of social, political or commercial exchange, and supports public policy organisations such as FET that promote the flourishing of society through the thoughtful application of socially responsible principles.

FET has also welcomed Shelley Luckie as FET Administrator. In her role, Shelley has responsibility both for day-to-day administration and preparation for the eventual move away from the office in Ashford, Middlesex.

About Family Education Trust
Family Education Trust is a national educational trust which researches the causes and consequences of family breakdown. It has no political or religious affiliations and is funded entirely by voluntary donations.  FET conducts sound, evidence-based academic research, always seeking to identify the underlying causes of social problems and giving particular time and attention to a wide range of areas that affect the stability of the family and the welfare of children and young people. It then uses the research for the purposes of informing, educating, influencing and supporting policymakers, educators, parents and the wider public.
