Welsh education bill threatens parental rights

Parents in Wales are set to lose the right to withdraw from both if the Curriculum and Assessment (Wales) Bill passes through the Senedd (Welsh Parliament) later this year. The bill establishes a new Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) and renames Religious Education (RE) ‘Religion, Ethics and Values (RVE)’. Both subjects are mandatory. We look at what parents can do to raise their concerns…

Great FET resources for parents and teachers

With the coming of mandatory Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education many parents and teachers may feel at a loss to as to what resources they can  use that are respectful of values such as modesty, chastity, and restraint. Our leaflets covering areas including love, sex, drugs, and alcohol are ideal for teaching children and young people about issues which concern them, but in a way that reflects your own beliefs rather than those of many in society today. You can order them them individually or as a bundle on our website.

Interview on Home Education

Our Senior Researcher Piers Shepherd interviews Randall Hardy of ‘No Nationalisation of Our Kids’ on the subject of home education. They discuss why parents decide to home educate, current threats to the freedom of parents, the role of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and other areas. A must-watch interview on how the rights of parents to educate their children in the way they see fit are being threatened. You can watch it on YouTube or read the full transcript in the bulletin.

The Corrosive Impact of Transgender Ideology

This report, published by Civitas and written by Joanna Williams of that think tank’s Freedom, Democracy and Victimhood Project, focuses on the threat to freedom of speech, women’s rights and child safety posed by the machinations of the transgender lobby. You can read our summary of the report in the bulletin and download the full report from the Civitas website.

Helpful booklet on RSE

Relationships and Sex Education: A guide for Christian parents in England is a booklet published by the Christian Institute and serves as a useful guide for parents concerned about sex education in their child’s school. Though aimed at Christian parents, it’s a useful booklet that can be use by parents of any faith or background who have concerns about what their children are being taught. We have written a full summary so that you can get an overall view of what’s in the guide, and you can download a copy here.

Letters from the Culture War book review

© Malcolm Cochrane Photography

The struggle to defend life, marriage and family has often been broadly described as the ‘culture war’. This book is by Michael Willis, who had a successful career in engineering but spent much of his spare time championing pro-life and pro-family causes. His commitment to his values resulted in him being sacked by the Institute of Directors where he had held a director training role. ‘Letters From The Culture War’ contains 200 unpublished letters written over the last ten years which the author submitted to the Daily Telegraph. These letters cover a very broad range of subjects including abortion, sex education,
marriage, home education, free speech, Brexit, and the NHS. You can read our full review of the book in the bulletin, and if you want to buy a copy, it’s available from the The Culture War website.

Out of the Smoke

We don’t often review novels in the bulletin, but in an age when morally healthy literature for
children and young people is few and far between, it is worth highlighting genuinely decent works that parents can give to children without fear of moral consequences. Aimed at children aged 12 + this is a thrilling story of faith and survival, based on the work of the Seventh Earl of Shaftesbury. Our review of the book can be read in the bulletin, and you can find out more about ‘Out Of The Smoke’ on the author Mathew Wainwright’s website.

Marriage and Divorce in the Liberal Imagination

Family Education Trust, in cooperation with the Coalition for Marriage, has recently published a booklet
based on the address given by Colin Hart at our 2019 conference but updated and expanded in light of the passing of the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act. This short, easy to read booklet tells you all you need to know about the benefits of marriage and the harm done by easily available divorce. Find out more and order your copy from our website for just £3.

Transgender Agenda DVD

The Transgender Agenda is a powerful evidence-based DVD in which medical and educational professionals including Dr Peter Saunders, Dr Carys Moseley and FET trustee Dr Julie Maxwell
speak out on the transgender issue and the harm it is doing to our children and young people. Find out more and order your copy from the Truth in Science website.
