Response from Robin Walker the Schools Minister

We are very disappointed with this reply from the Schools Minster Robin Walker in response to our recent letter expressing our concerns with how schools are teaching Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) within schools.

We wrote to Mr Walker because so many parents are contacting us since senior leaders at their children’s schools are ignoring their concerns about inappropriate RSE, and refuse to discuss the curriculum. Children are being sexualised, labelled with LGBT concepts that they are too young to comprehend, put at risk of abuse – and are being indoctrinated with gender ideology. Yet Mr Walker seems to think that this is acceptable for children to learn to live in “modern Britain”.

He also says that the Department for Education “cannot advise schools on which resources, external speakers or organisations will be the most suitable for schools to use”, when we are aware of countless occasions where schools are using RSE materials which are clearly against the 2010 Equality Act and promote gender ideology despite the concerns of the Cass Review. Many schools are also inviting in unsuitable speakers, such as the recent case of Portsmouth Grammar School inviting trans activists Peter Tatchell and Juno Dawson.

We will be taking action to urge the Government to reconsider and to issue new guidance for schools in order to protect children from sexualisation. Children should be allowed to enjoy their childhoods, not be introduced to adult sexual concepts and pseudoscience about gender identity within schools in the UK.

Children and their parents deserve better.
