Based on Joost van Loon’s report Deconstructing the Dutch utopia, this factsheet summarises the reasons why sex education cannot account for the vast difference between teenage pregnancy rates in the UK compared with the Netherlands. It highlights eight factors which offer a more credible explanation and concludes that high rates of teenage pregnancy in the UK cannot be effectively addressed until the central importance of family structure is recognized.
